King’s House invites you to attend our “The Greatest Love of All” retreat in 2020. While it may sound like Whitney Houston’s great hit is our inspiration, it is actually another Bernadette Farrell song, “Love Goes On” that will guide our reflections on the weekend. We will also draw on the wisdom of Pontiff Emeritus Benedict XVI in his first encyclical letter, “Deus Caritas Est” – God is Love.
As we begin on our first evening, we take some time to start to unwind and begin to settle into the silence of the retreat. Our first short conference will allow us to look at the foundation of all love in our lives – God’s patient, kind, merciful and abiding love.
The first full day brings us two conferences. The morning conference, entitled “Love as Gift”, will explore the overwhelming gift of God’s love for each one of us. How can God look beyond our weaknesses and failure to see the beauty within each one of us?The afternoon conference, titled, “Love as Healing”, will spend time looking at how God, who is love, is with us in the painful times, reaching out to us to heal us. This greatest love of all shows itself when we are broken and when our relationships are strained. As always, we conclude with a conference to send us back out into the world. The Sunday conference will look at “Love as Service”. Having been loved to our very depths, we can only respond in one way. We are compelled to reach out in love to others. What this looks like will be a little different for each one of us, but it is the only possible response.
Some things will look very familiar this year. We will have time to celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. Some of our prayer time will look different or new. We will experience a guided meditation on a favorite scripture reading, we will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet with a visual meditation and celebrate a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament.
King’s House invites you to come and explore the quiet and hospitality of our center and grounds. We hope you will find time to wander the footpaths and enjoy nature, find a quiet nook to read, listen to God’s voice in scripture, music, conference presentations and silence. In any or all of these ways we hope that the greatest love of all will renew your spirit.
Presenters for the weekend are Deacon Doug and Geri Boyer
