“It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.” —William L. Watkinson
King’s House invites you attend a “Christ Be Our Light: Out of Darkness into God’s Marvelous Light” retreat in 2019. Using Bernadette Farrell’s song Christ, Be Our Light, as a guide, we will consider how the Light of Christ is both what guides us through the darkness of our lives, and the gift we are to bring to others as we allow him to shine through us.
As we settle into the first evening of retreat we will unpack not only the things we brought from home, but also the ways in which light and darkness play a role in our lives. As evening draws on and the stars begin to shine in the night sky, we will also remember those who shine, in perhaps simple and gentle ways, in our lives.
The first full day of retreat will bring us two conferences. The morning conference, entitled Longing for Light, We Wait in Darkness, will help us explore the rhythm of light and darkness in our lives as we realize that the relationship of light to darkness is not simply black and white, but more nuanced. The kind of waiting we find ourselves experiencing may also indicate what kind of darkness we are in.
The afternoon conference of Longing for Hope, We Turn to You will help us to reflect on how the deepest longings of our hearts are met in our encounter with Christ. Our final conference the following morning, Many the Gifts, Many the People, will open up for us how our turning to Christ also necessitates and leads us to turning to others, so that together we may be the Church gathered today in service to God’s coming Kingdom.
During our retreats you will have the opportunity to celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, as well as share in a variety of prayer experiences.
King’s House invites you to come and explore the quietude and hospitality of our center and grounds. Wander the footpaths and enjoy nature; pray with others in liturgy; find a quiet nook in which to read; listen for God’s voice in scripture, music, conference presentations and silence. In these ways let the light of Christ shine on your heart as we journey out of darkness into God’s marvelous light.
Presenters for this weekend are Karen Seaborn and Fr. Mark Dean, OMI
