Fall 2021 – Spring 2022

Lazarus, Come Forth: A Path to a Better Future

And Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”  (Cf. John 11)

The Covid-19 Pandemic has brought us to many tombs… to the literal graves of our deceased loved ones whom we lost during this Pandemic, and to the figurative tombs of our own isolation as we experienced times of quarantine and distancing. Come and join us at King’s House to ponder, through the lens of the story of Lazarus, how Jesus once again steps into our world of loss and death and calls us to new life, while also entrusting to us the continued task of unbinding and setting free… tasks which will lead us to a better future.

On our first night of retreat we join Lazarus’ sister Martha and with her say to Jesus, “Lord, Had You Been Here with Me…” As we settle in we take stock of where we have been in the past year, and share with Jesus the times when we wanted to say, “Lord, where are you?” or “Lord, come quickly…”.

Our first full day bring us two conferences. In the morning conference we shall meet at the tomb and hear Jesus tell us to Take Away the Stone. What are some of the obstacles we might experience in allowing Jesus access to our fears, regrets, failures and whatever else may lie buried within us which needs to hear the voice of Jesus calling us forth?

In our afternoon conference we will hear Jesus cry, “Lazarus, Come Forth”. How does Jesus call us forth, to leave behind the tombs of our losses and the places of our boundedness? What does Jesus call us to leave, and into what does he invite us to enter? We conclude our retreat with a conference to send us back into the world. In this conference we will take notice of Jesus’ command to Unbind and Set Free. How might we be the hands and hearts that unbind and set free, so that with Jesus we might tread the path which leads us to a better future?

Pope Francis’ recent book, Let Us Dream: The Path to a Better Future, will be a guide for us as we journey to observe, choose and act according to the heart of Jesus. During our retreat Lazarus, Come Forth: Our Path to a Better Future we will have time to celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, as well as take time to be gathered in silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

King’s House invites you to come and explore the quiet and hospitality of our center and grounds, where we continue to practice the recommended Covid-19 protocols for the wellbeing of all. We hope you will find time to wander the footpaths and enjoy nature, find a quiet nook to read in, listen to God’s voice in  scripture, music, conference presentations and silence. In all of this, may you be blessed in the tasks of coming forth, unbinding, and setting free.

All are welcome to attend a King’s House retreat. The current suggested amount is $185 which reflects our actual costs. If you are able to give more, we appreciate your gift. If you cannot give as much, we understand. The retreat fee is paid as an anonymous donation by envelope, making it affordable for everyone. One person helps another to be here and no one is turned away due to financial circumstances.
