Title Hearing the Parables of Jesus with 21st Century Hearts

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. The Parables are word pictures that Jesus gives to us as a gift. They touch not only the head but the heart. During our Retreat we will allow Jesus to speak to us through these word pictures.
The Gospel parables are important because they convey spiritual, moral, and psychological knowledge concerning things for which the human race does not have explicit words. Parables can say things symbolically that we can’t say in words.

Summer Directed Retreats are a time of sacred silence, an invitation to step away from the pressures and demands of daily responsibilities, and an opportunity to deepen your relationship with God through prayer. A reverent God filled silence is always maintained throughout the Retreat Center including during meals. Mass, and prayer sessions are offered daily during the retreat.
King’s House is blessed with a great team of spiritual directors that will guide the retreat. Each director possesses the necessary skills to guide their directees compassionately and peacefully, allowing them to listen to God’s voice and to journey closely with their loving God. Retreatants meet with their director once a day and are provided suggested scripture passages tailored to their own prayer.
Ideally retreatants will have some experience in meditative prayer, the desire to enter prolonged silence, and sufficient self-awareness to recognize their own inward movements. If this if your first Directed Retreat do not worry, our spiritual directors will guide you through the week.

Welcome to your Summer Directed Retreat at King’s House, where you can heed St. Anselm’s advice to “Break off from your cares and troubles and be less concerned about your tasks and labors. Make a little time for God and rest a while in him. … Shut out everything but God and whatever helps you to seek him; and when you have shut the door, look for him. Speak now to God and say with your whole heart: I seek your face; your face, Lord, I desire.” [From the Proslogion by St. Anselm, bishop. Cf: Advent week I — Friday Office of Readings]
